Hatter and Alice turned to see none other than Jack Heart. "Hello, Alice," he said. "Not interrupting anything, am I?" He held a long sword in his right hand, and it glinted in the sun. Hatter felt his lip curl, and he took a step forward, shielding Alice with his body. "I know what you're thinking. How could anyone sneak up on me of all people? And in my own manor, too." Hatter started up the boat, and sped off across the water. He quickly found his mooring spot, hid the boat, and then jogged off through the forest. He paused, just out of sight of the camp, to catch his breath. He didn't want Alice to necessarily know that he had hurried back to her side. I'm a little pathetic, he berated himself. He didn't let it bother him too much, though, and continued into camp once his breathing had become regulated again.
